Brutal legend review

Brutal legend is a game alot of people have been excited for, because of the developer Tim Schafer. he isn't the most well known developer because his games haven't gotten alot of publicity until now, and he has no doubt created one of the funniest games I've ever played. the earlier parts of the game are absolutely hilarious, the main focus of the story is it being funny. unfortunately the humor gets weaker towards the end and the story starts to get weird more than anything else.

The gameplay in Brutal legend is very unique. while the majority of gameplay consists of RTS style battles, the game also features hack n slash, shooting and racing sequences, which are great for changing the pace of the game. all the gameplay sections are done pretty well and are great fun because of their simplicity. their are some issues with the game, and although they are minor, they can sometimes ruin the experience. for example, the inability to jump can sometimes get you stuck between some objects, and may result in you having to load an earlier save. and sometimes the game doesn't do a great job of telling you the aim of the quest. these are just a few of the flaws brutal legend has, and i won't go into the rest of them because they are relatively small.

the voice acting by Jack Black is brilliant, and this only makes the game even funnier. His character, Eddie Riggs is very likable and suits the game very well. even the minor characters have great voice acting and help alot with the humor. all this is backed up by great character animations during cut scenes, especially facial animations, which give the characters in the game alot of, well, character.

Brutal legend is an open world game. it may not seem like it from the playable demo, but it is actually a proper open world game with loads of side quests scattered around the world. unfortunately the game is quite short, and for an open world game, 'brutally' short. the main story can be done in 6 hours and the side quests don't offer much variety. in conclusion, the game is great if you love heavy metal or simply want an original and funny game. but compared to all the other amazing game coming out soon, i recommend this as a rental.
